Southwest Florida Events This Week: Gardens, Adoption Days & Community Meetings

What’s happening locally this week?

Looking for Southwest Florida events this week? The verified highlights are Collier County’s 2026 Yard and Garden Show on October 24–25 and the “Home for the Howl-idays” fee-waived dog adoption promotion that same weekend. Public meetings in Naples and Golden Gate offer additional ways to get involved earlier in the week.

This shortlist focuses on Collier County because that’s where the available official listings confirm upcoming dates. It is not a complete regional calendar, and the available Ave Maria page does not confirm a local event for this week.

Weekend picks: gardens and a chance to meet adoptable dogs

2026 Yard and Garden Show

When: Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Collier County invites plant lovers of all ages to its 2026 Yard and Garden Show. If your ideal weekend outing starts with something green, this is a confirmed event to put on your shortlist.

The county’s announcement excerpt confirms the dates, but it does not provide the venue, opening hours, admission price or activity schedule. Check the full announcement through Collier County Government before planning your departure.

Before committing, look for:

• The exact venue and visitor entrance.
• Daily start and finish times.
• Admission or registration requirements.
• Accessibility and parking information.

If you’re building a wider outing around the show, our Naples guide is a starting point for exploring the area. Confirm the event location first rather than assuming it is close to your other stops.

“Home for the Howl-idays” dog adoption weekend

When: October 24–25, 2026.

Collier County Domestic Animal Services lists this weekend among the dates for its fee-waived dog adoption promotion. Community members are invited to visit DAS and meet dogs waiting for homes.

For households already considering adoption, this is an opportunity to take that next step thoughtfully. A waived adoption fee does not remove the ongoing responsibilities of food, veterinary care, training and a suitable home environment.

The available announcement does not include visiting hours, the adoption location or application requirements. Confirm those directly with DAS, and ask what you should bring before leaving home. If you hope to adopt, also arrange an appropriate way to transport a dog safely.

Earlier in the week: community meetings

These are civic meetings rather than entertainment events. They may be useful if you want to follow local decisions or better understand issues affecting your neighborhood.

Black Affairs Advisory Board

• When: Monday, October 19, at 6:00 p.m.
• Where: Golden Gate Community Center, 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Room C, Naples.

The county calendar confirms this meeting’s time and location. Review the agenda and public participation instructions before attending.

Tourist Development Council

• When: Tuesday, October 20, at 9:00 a.m.
• Where: Board of County Commissioners Chambers, third floor, Collier County Government Center, 3299 Tamiami Trail E., Naples.
• Format: Hybrid remote meeting.

If you prefer to participate remotely, check the official meeting notice for access instructions. The calendar excerpt confirms the hybrid format but does not supply a joining link.

Golden Gate Beautification Advisory Committee

• When: Tuesday, October 20, at 4:30 p.m.
• Where: Golden Gate Branch Library, 2432 Lucerne Road, Naples.
• Format: Hybrid remote meeting.

The full committee name is the Golden Gate Beautification Municipal Service Taxing Unit Advisory Committee. Check the agenda to see which topics are scheduled for discussion.

What about Halloween events and Ave Maria?

Collier County Parks & Recreation has announced a family-friendly Halloween lineup for October. However, the available announcement does not identify individual event dates, venues or times, so those activities are not included as confirmed picks for this week.

Likewise, the available Ave Maria events page displays community news rather than a dated weekly event schedule. That does not mean nothing is happening—it means there isn’t enough verified information here to recommend a specific event.

For general destination planning, browse our Ave Maria guide. Treat destination ideas separately from confirmed event listings.

Make the outing easy

Choose your main event, verify the missing details, then build the rest of your plans around it. That is especially helpful when coordinating several households or traveling from Ave Maria.

AVE RIDES PRO TIP Confirm the event’s visitor entrance before arranging your ride. A venue’s general address may not identify the entrance you need; save the organizer’s directions alongside your booking details.

Once your destination and timing are settled, explore Ave Rides transportation options or book a ride. For a group outing, agree on the return plan before everyone heads off in different directions.

Source note: Event details above come from Collier County Government’s news and calendar listings. The available Town of Ave Maria page was also reviewed, but it did not establish a weekly event schedule. Recheck the organizer’s latest notice before departure.
